Cree legend of the butterfly: Kisemanito created all the four-leggeds, two-leggeds, animals of the air and water. After creating the two-leggeds, they spent most of their time on the ground. So Kisemanito picked up a handfull of pebbles and threw them in the air, where they transformed into butterflies. They were soo pretty, the two-leggeds got up and chased them and have been that way ever since.
This design is in honor of my teacher Xwalacktun, who is Coast Salish. Its done in my Cree and Carrier traditional forms with a single Coast Salish element.
