My latest painting featuring an abstract portrait of the owner the Fort Langley 'Paper Moon".......Carrie Davis. My son Keith Galick is a portrait photographer. He started "Langley Portraits".... a personal photography project showcasing the unique people of our home town Langley, British Columbia. It is done in his spare time and is a way for him to give back to the people of my community. Basically, it is just Keith taking photos of interesting people, and then posting that work to this blog.
I loved this image that Keith shot of his friend, Carrie Davis, owner of the local Fort Langley "Paper Moon" and decided to paint it. One of my instructors told me to always challenge myself and I have to say this painting was definitely a challenge. Not only the muted darks, the lights, the semi portrait but the layers and layers of colours and the reflective image of the car passing by the window challenged my abilities as an impressionistic artist as well as there is just 'so much going on' in Keith's photo. I had a lot of fun painting this as well as lots of hours of frustration but in the end I am happy with it.
