Gathering fallen chestnuts in a quiet rural cemetery is a peaceful, calming experience. The stunning colour of these ones in the sunlight struck me. Inside the green shell is a soft thick layer of white foam like cushioning to protect the precious seed. How a lumpy, ugly, spiky shell can contain something so beautiful puts me in awe of nature.
